If you’ve been thinking of renovating your home or starting a new building project, you’ll probably be looking for a suitable company to fit your needs and budget. Selecting the right company can be the difference between a successful project and one that turns into a complete nightmare.
So where do you start?
- Personal recommendations
The first step should be to ask around for a recommendation. Your family, friends and work colleagues. Who have they used? What was their experience with them like? A lot of business for most successful companies is driven through referrals. A good recommendation from a trusted person can set you on the correct track when it comes to making such an important decision.
- Do some research
Doing a bit of research into the history of a company can also give you a good idea of what kind of experience you can expect to have with them. How long have they been around? How many projects have they been involved in and successfully completed? What do their previous customers think of their work? These are all crucial questions that you should have answers to before you choose anyone.
Some ideas:
- Check out their website
- Look at their testimonials
- Google “complaints and the company name”
- Check out the Builders complaint website – Here
3. Are they legitimate?
What you should also check is if they’re registered in New Zealand. You can do this on the Companies Office website. If you can find them here, this means they’re a legitimate New Zealand company and you’ll be covered by all relevant acts, policies and laws that apply.
4. Pricing
Prices will definitely play another role. You’ll want to be comparing prices to ensure that you’re not overpaying, or going for the necessarily cheapest option just because it’s cheap. A good reputable company with a good track record is worth paying a few extra dollars for if it means that you will get quality work and a smooth experience. Building prices are getting more and more expensive in Auckland, so you need to ensure you know what to expect to be paying without being overcharged.
